A judge has rejected a defense lawyer's request for a mental competency evaluation for a Tulsa woman who is accused of making a false police report that prompted a massive search for her infant son. Tulsa County Special Judge David Youll, who has observed and spoken with Lisa Miller in court, determined Wednesday that the defense had not raised a doubt about her competency. Youll scheduled a March 14 trial on Miller's three misdemeanor counts -- one count of falsely reporting a crime and two counts of obstructing an officer. Miller, also known as Lisa Grant, reportedly told Tulsa police Oct. 6 that her infant son was in her van when it was stolen from a parking lot. An Amber Alert was issued. After a massive search, however, officers determined that the baby wasn't in the van when it was stolen. Authorities think the false information regarding the child was included in an effort to add urgency to the search for the van. In a Feb. 10 application for a competency evaluation, defense lawyer Patrick Adams said Miller demonstrated "a complete inability to comprehend communications made to her by counsel" and "an inability to help counsel make any decisions in the resolution of her case." In a separate case, Miller awaits a preliminary hearing on a felony charge of possessing a controlled drug in November. Miller, 29, is free on bond.
